More Schools Join Smart Schools Program

The Divine Word College of Laoag, Colegio de San Juan de Letran Calamba and the University of the Cordilleras are now part of the Smart Wireless Engineering Education Program (SWEEP) of Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart).  The three schools recently signed an agreement with the country’s leading wireless services provider to participate in a unique industry-academe partnership that seeks to help raise the level of engineering and technology education in the country, particularly in the field of Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE).  Under SWEEP, the schools will benefit from the provisioning of a wireless laboratory that helps students and faculty members study different aspects of cellular networks and from a continuing education program that includes lectures by Smart engineers and industry experts as well as on-the-job training for students and an immersion program for teachers.  SWEEP partners are also recognized for innovative wireless applications development during the annual SWEEP Innovation and Excellence Awards. There are 42 SWEEP schools to date, from Mariano Marcos State University in Ilocos Norte in the north to Notre Dame of Marbel University in Koronadal, South Cotabato in the south.
